30th Anniversary Year 1978 - 2008

                WE ARE MOVING

In the year that we will celebrate our 30th anniversary, the Club is to move its summer HQ from Queen's Park Annexe athletic track, where it started, to a new floodlit all-weather facility at Tupton Hall School, Station New Rd, Tupton, S42 6LG, commencing with OUR first outdoor training session on Tuesday 1 April at 6.30pm.  Whilst not up to full competition standard, the track will be a major improvement on the forty-five year old Annexe  which is prone to flooding after heavy rain.  Previous Monday Academy sessions will be discontinued as this group will be catered for on Tuesday and Thursday nights.  The club will continue to honour its club/schools link commitments to the Chesterfield Schools' Sports Partnership, and will be looking to enter into a similar arrangement with the equivalent NE Derbyshire group.  The club expects to form a strong working relationship with Tupton Hall, which has Sports College status, and is the largest secondary school by roll number in the County. CONGRATULATIONS
to everyone who made the long trip up to Chester-le-Street and helped us to win our first UKYAL match by a large margin.  For full results, fixtures and rankings check out official website www.natyal.co.uk. One down and four more to go, with promotion back to the Premier Division as our aim! (6/5/08)

POWER OF 10 RANKINGS.
Athletes can also check out all their performances and how they rank in the East Midlands Region and nationally at www.ukathletics.net/power-of-10 (6/5/08)

CONGRATULATIONS to Paige Collings, Natasha Illingworth, Yasmin Spencer and Sarah Tomlinson
on being members of the U15G squad which took Derbyshire's first-ever team gold medal in the 25 year history of the Norwich Union National Sportshall Finals.  Yasmin also retained her shot putt title, and took the bronze medal in the All-Rounder competition, while Sarah had an excellent individual win in her favoured speed bounce event.  So the C&DAC athletes came back with a haul of six golds and one bronze medal between them.  Well done! (23/4/08)

£2.00 INCREASE IN SUBSCRIPTIONS.
England Athletics has just advised us that the cost of an athlete's competition licence has increased from £3.00 to £5.00.  The Club had only allowed for the old rate when setting the 2008-9 subscriptions at the 2007 AGM, and, therefore, has no alternative but to collect an extra £2.00 from all members as from 1 April for this calendar year, making the amounts payable: U15s - £10.00, U17s & unwaged concessions - £13.00, all over 17yrs £17.00, family membership £43.00.  All ages are as at 31.August 2008. (14/3/08)

COUNTY CHAMPS RELAY TEAMS.
In the recent past the Club has had a policy of not entering relay teams for the County Champs. However, should individuals ie. team managers/parents/coaches/athletes wish to enter teams, they are welcome to do so, and the money will be refundable from the Club, but only if the team completes the event. (14/3/08)

TRAINING FEE INCREASE.
After many years unchanged, the club has decided to increase its training fee from the present £1.50 to a new rate of £2.00 per session starting on Tuesday 1 April when outdoor training starts at our new venue, Tupton Hall School. (4/3/08)

OFFICIALS COURSES.
If you would like to get more involved with athletics as a Technical Official, helping to run track & field meetings, there are courses in track judging and timekeeping coming up at Derby Moorways on Sat 12 April from 10am - 4pm.  Course fee £10.00 will be paid by the Club for active members, or parents of athletes.  Please speak to Frank Gorman at training, if interested. CAN YOU HELP?
We will soon be coming to the start of a new Track and Field season, and are on the lookout for Officials to help out at League meetings.  Points are awarded at each match for officials provided by the clubs, so it is essential that we have enough available at each one.  If you are interested in becoming an official, or in upgrading your current qualification, please check out the England Athletics (East Midlands) website for details of course dates.  The club will reimburse course fees upon successful completion.  Anyone can do it!  All our current officials started out as complete novices.  To register your interest please speak to Richard Pentin or Frank Gorman at training. www.dcaa.org.uk  With the retirement of Mick Bannon, the County governing body is looking for a volunteer to take over as Website Manager as from 7 Jan.  A knowledge of HTML and CSS would be needed to continue the current set-up, or of Web Editor to start afresh.  They are also in need of a Computerised Results operator starting with next Sportshall on 20 January.  Familiarity with MS Excel would be helpful for troubleshooting purposes.  These are separate jobs, but no objection to same person doing both.  Speak to Frank Gorman (01246 235651) for an initial discussion. (15/12/07)

NEW ADDITION TO CLUB KIT.
In response to members' requests, we are now stocking the new Prostar Hurricane Rainjacket in navy/royal blue, with the Club name printed on the back panel and embroidered on the left breast, in the following chest sizes:  28/30 and 30/32 @ £17.00 each, and 32/34, 34/36, 38/40, 42/44 and 46/48 @ £21.00 each.  Please ask in the clubhouse at any training session. (5/1/08)

COMPETING FOR THE CLUB.
It is a condition of Club membership that athletes attending training sessions are expected to compete for the Club when selected to do so, and athletes/parents agreed to this when first joining.  In view of the large numbers training, and the smaller numbers competing, your Committee will be comparing names of those attending training sessions with the names of those representing the Club in actual competition, with a view to identifying the athletes who appear to have difficulty in turning out, so that Team Managers can discuss any problems they may have. (2/1/08)

CLUB VESTS & T SHIRTS.
Your Committee has decided that Club T shirts can only be worn in the Derbyshire Mini Leagues, where they are acceptable to the organisers.  However, in ALL other Leagues, the official Club vest must be worn.  Athletes needing to purchase one should see Pete Muddiman at training, ring him on 01246 277446 or email him at coachmuddiman@btinternet.com
